Gnosis Bridge: Prevent Sending the Wrong Token

Gnosis Bridge shifts supported assets between Ethereum and Gnosis Chain, leaving the recipient wallet with the Gnosis-side version of the selected asset and, where chosen, native xDAI for transaction fees. This guide covers what to prepare, the exact transfer flow, and the checks that avoid the most expensive mistake: bridging a token with the right ticker but the wrong contract. It applies while the selected route and asset continue available in the live interface.

What is Gnosis Bridge and what does it move?

A blockchain bridge, a system that transfers assets or information between separate blockchain networks, helps a wallet move value from Ethereum (chain ID 1) to Gnosis Chain (chain ID 100). On arrival, the asset may be a Gnosis-side representation rather than the original Ethereum contract. That counts most for USDC, DAI, and WETH.

What to prepare before bridging from Ethereum to Gnosis

I set up a wallet containing the asset to move and enough ETH to pay Ethereum gas. I also add Gnosis Chain to the wallet, copy the receiving app’s required token contract, and start with a small test amount. Gnosis Chain uses xDAI as its native gas asset, so receiving only a bridged ERC-20 can leave a wallet unable to send its next transaction.

How to use Gnosis Bridge from start to finish

  1. Go to https://gnosisbridge.app/, where the live bridge lists the current route, direction, assets, limits, and wallet connection.
  2. Attach the wallet and make sure the route is Ethereum to Gnosis Chain. Pick the asset and enter the amount.
  3. Review the displayed destination token contract against the contract used by the app or exchange that will take it. Do not decide from the symbol or logo.
  4. Confirm the token if the wallet asks for it, then check and submit the bridge transaction. The approval and transfer can be different Ethereum transactions.
  5. Wait for the bridge to finish, switch the wallet to Gnosis Chain, and confirm the received balance and contract address. Add the token manually only if the wallet does not display it.

Why a Gnosis Bridge transfer may not work

A transfer cannot continue when the wallet is on the other source network, ETH is not enough for gas, the amount exceeds a live limit, or the asset is unsupported. Some tokens have special rules—such as rebasing supply—and may not be eligible. A completed transaction can still be wrong if it delivers USDC.e, bridged DAI, or another representation that the destination does not accept.

When Gnosis Bridge is the right route

Gnosis Bridge is suitable when the required asset and contract are supported for Ethereum-to-Gnosis or the reverse direction. Wait rather than improvising when the token is absent, the contract does not match, or the destination needs a different network; a confirmed bridge transaction is generally not reversible.
